We don\u2019t have any further details of Daniel and Sallie\u2019s marriage\u2014whether Daniel died or the couple separated\u2014but in the 1890\u2019s Sallie seems to have relocated to New Bedford MA.9<\/a><\/sup>Robert Yancey marriage record: “Massachusetts Marriages, 1841-1915,” database with images, FamilySearch (https:\/\/familysearch.org\/ark:\/61903\/3:1:33S7-9RSK-HJF?cc=1469062<\/a> : 28 November 2018), > image 1 of 1; State Archives, Boston.<\/span> It was common around the turn of the twentieth century for African Americans to move north in search of work, sometimes leaving their children behind until they got settled.10<\/a><\/sup>\u201cThe Great Migration (1910-1970),\u201d National Archives (Washington DC), https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/research\/african-americans\/migrations\/great-migration<\/a>: accessed 16 Aug 2022.<\/span> This may have been the case with Sallie, who seems to have left Georgia at the Overby family home on Pine Street.11<\/a><\/sup>1900 US Census Durham: Ancestry.com. 1900 United States Federal Census [database on-line]. Sallie married Robert D. Yancey in New Bedford on 7 June 1897.12<\/a><\/sup>Robert Yancey marriage record. Note that the bride\u2019s parents are listed as Albert and Sarah Overby. Sallie had an older brother Albert (married to Addie) and a sister-in-law Sarah (married to her brother William Jr.), and it\u2019s possible that Albert was taking her father\u2019s place at the wedding (maybe giving away the bride), as we believe her father was deceased at this time. Sarah might also have been a member of the wedding, Matron of Honor, perhaps.<\/span>  The 1900 Federal Census shows Sallie and Robert living in New Bedford, Robert working as a laborer.
