They resided at 272 White Oak in Wake County NC. They now had a daughter Hortense (15), and sons Willie (13), Eddie (7), and Louis (6). Their daughter Emma, her husband Charlie Brandon, and their children, Freddie (8) and Bertha (4), also lived in the home. To support this large brood, Elam worked as a Drayman, Corinna worked as a cook, Emma strung sacks for tobacco, and Charlie was a fire station engineer.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"6\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211-6\">6<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211-6\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"6\">1900 US Census Durham 0026.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the family expanded, so did the geographical boundaries of where they chose to live. While all documents appear to indicate that Elam and Corinna remained married to one another until death separated them, Elam remained in Durham while Corinna traveled to the homes of their children. Corinna\u2019s journey began in the home of her daughter Hortense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 1910 Federal Census for Durham shows Hortense as single, with two children, both bearing her last name.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote modern-footnotes-footnote--hover-on-desktop \" data-mfn=\"7\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211-7\">7<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000000bf90000000000000000_2211-7\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"7\">1910 US Census Durham 0039.<\/span> She went on to marry a longshoreman named Jimmie Ford in Norfolk VA, where her children George and Ruth were part of the household.
