MEBANE, LIZZIE

A number of Latta family members are buried in Geer Cemetery, including Lizzie Latta, born in 1892.¹Find a Grave. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/31369752/lizzie-mebane. At her untimely death in 1920, she was married to James Mebane of Durham. The only document we can confidently associate with her is her death certificate, which tells us she was a domestic, working at home. Her father, J.M. Some of the confusion surrounding her is due to the presence of another Lizzie Mebane, married to a Charles Mebane, who lived in Durham at the same time as the former Lizzie Latta.³Durham County Deed Book 41: 143 (https://rodweb.dconc.gov/RealEstate/SearchEntry.aspx).
