In June 1897, Sallie Macon, nee Overby, married Robert D. Yancey.1Robert Yancey marriage record: “Massachusetts Marriages, 1841-1915,” database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9RSK-HJF?cc=1469062 : 28 November 2018), > image 1 of 1; State Archives, Boston.
Note that the bride’s parents are listed as Albert and Sarah Overby. Sallie had an older brother Albert (married to Addie) and a sister-in-law Sarah (married to her brother William Jr.) and it’s possible that Albert was taking her father’s place at the wedding (maybe giving away the bride), as we believe her father was deceased at this time. Sarah might also have been a member of the wedding, Matron of Honor, perhaps. Sallie was from North Carolina, and Robert was from New Bedford, MA, where the wedding took place and where the couple settled down afterward.21900 US Census New Bedford: Year: 1900; Census Place: New Bedford Ward 4, Bristol, Massachusetts; Roll: 637; Page: 1; Enumeration District: 0190; FHL microfilm: 1240638. Sallie had a daughter, Georgia (b. 1890), from her previous marriage, who remained in North Carolina, though she took her new stepfather’s last name.3Georgia Macon Social Security death index: Social Security Administration; Washington D.C., USA; Social Security Death Index, Master File. Also living with Robert and Sallie in New Bedford was Sallie’s younger sister Mary who was working as a music teacher at the age of only 16.41900 US Census New Bedford.
Robert and Sallie had one child that we know of: Friendrica D. Yancey. She was born in either 1906 or 1908, in either New Bedford or possibly in Michigan; records confusingly disagree.51906 and New Bedford: Friendrica death certificate: North Carolina State Archives; Raleigh, North Carolina; North Carolina Death Certificates. Her short life must have had more than its share of confusion, as the family cannot be located in the 1910 census. It appears that her parents separated, with Sally and Friendrica moving back to Durham sometime between 1908 and 1918, and Robert ending up remarried in New Jersey.6Sallie’s return: 1920 US Census Durham.

Death: Friendrica Yancey death certificate. Her name was rendered as “Friendrica DeYancy” (rather than “Friendrica D. Yancey”), on her death certificate, adding to the confusion.
