FoGC Writer’s Workshop
To reserve your spot, email us at friendsofgeercemetery@gmail.com.
What began as Facebook Day of Honor posts now includes full articles on the FoGC website. The life stories are presented in a more formal way on the website. We have received comments that show appreciation for the stories on the website. Today there are over 60 life stories on the website and we need people like you to help increase that number. Basically, it involves taking the research notes that you have collected to write the story and making sure the web editors can convert them into formal references. It’s easier than you think! And the web committee is here to help.
As mentioned in the last several FOGC meetings, we are hosting a writing workshop on 22 February 2024, 6:30 – 8 pm. It is a virtual meeting using Zoom. In the workshop, you’ll learn everything you need to write life stories for the Friends of Geer Cemetery website, or even for nationally respected academic journals. Topics include:
• What makes a good story
• Common writing mistakes
• What constitutes a reliable source
• How to provide references
These are all skills that you can transfer to other parts of your life.
The Life Stories webpage contains the following ancient Egyptian saying:
“We die twice. Once when our last breath leaves our body, and again when our name is spoken for the last time.”
The more stories researched, written, and delivered on the website, the longer the legacies of the people buried in Geer Cemetery stay alive.
Please send an email to let us know you are attending. We will reply with login instructions for Zoom. If you are unable to attend but still interested in Geer Cemetery research, let us know that also. Thank you for your past, current, and future commitment to Friends of Geer Cemetery.
